You don't need training data to run a support chatbot

Every week someone tells me they'd like a support bot but they 'don't have the data for it.' They picture a spreadsheet of a thousand questions and answers, a few weekends of tagging, and a model that still gets it wrong. That was true in 2019. It isn't true now, and it was never true for the kind of site most of us run.

The training data is your website

If a visitor can find the answer on your site, a modern language model can find it too. Your pricing page is the answer to 'how much is it.' Your shipping policy is the answer to 'when will it arrive.' Your docs, your FAQ, your about page: that is the knowledge base. You already wrote it. You just never pointed a bot at it.

That is the whole idea behind VibeCS. You paste your address, it crawls your public pages, and from then on the bot answers from that content and nothing else. No upload, no tagging, no prompt writing. The first version is ready in about the time it takes to make coffee.

Why 'from your site only' matters

A chatbot that can say anything will, eventually, say something wrong with total confidence. A bot limited to your pages has a much smaller way to fail: it can only repeat what you published. If the answer isn't there, it says so and hands the visitor to a human.

That limit is a feature. It means the bot gets better every time you improve your site. Fix a confusing paragraph on the returns page and the bot's answer improves with the next crawl. You are not maintaining two sources of truth.

What to do before you turn one on

    • Make sure the questions you get most often are actually answered somewhere on your site. If you keep answering the same email, that answer belongs on a page.
    • Put the important things on public pages. A bot can't read a PDF buried in a help portal behind a login.
    • Check that your contact details are visible. The best fallback for 'I don't know' is 'here is how to reach a person.'
    • Pick a tone. VibeCS ships two personas, a friendly one and a direct one, because a dental office and a developer tool shouldn't sound the same.

What a bot like this won't do

It won't look up a specific order, change a booking or process a refund. It doesn't have access to your systems, and for most small teams that is the right default. What it will do is take the 'where is your pricing' and 'do you ship to Canada' questions off your plate, so the messages that reach you are the ones that actually need you.

How to try it without committing

Open the VibeCS dashboard, paste your address, and ask the bot five questions a customer would ask. If it answers them well, put it on your site. If it doesn't, the fix is almost always a page on your site that needs to be clearer, and that improves things for human visitors too.

It is $8 a month, or $99 once if you'd rather not think about it again. There is no training data to prepare, because you already did that part.
